The Arai GPV-R represents the latest evolution of Arai's Egg-Shaped Form design language, purpose-built to help impact energy "glance off" the shell rather than transfer into it. The PB-cLc (Peripherally Belted Complex Laminate) shell is paired with a lowered shield pivot point, which frees up the upper shell to stay smoother and rounder — a small geometry change that matters a lot in a real impact.
The new GP-VAS shield system lowers the shield's closed-position high point by 17mm versus the previous generation, increasing the smooth surface area above the eye port and improving deflection performance in FIA impact absorption testing. The redesigned center shield lock gives drivers and safety crews effortless, positive-lock operation from either side of the helmet, and holds the shield secure even under impact loading — a detail specifically addressed to clear FIA 8859-2024 requirements.
Inside, the GPV-R gets a taller eye port (roughly 8mm more visibility at the bottom edge) for a better view of gauges and mirrors without compromising shell protection, plus a softer EPS liner made possible by the added shell strength. The removable interior padding system includes 7mm dense and 5mm soft foam pads on each side, giving up to two sizes of fit adjustment, and the cheek pads are replaceable, precut for cleaner mic routing, and relieved at the upper corner for drivers who wear glasses. Ventilation is upgraded with three intake vents and four larger exhaust cowls, with the top vent ducting moved 15mm forward for better airflow.
